Poziv na okrugli stol

Pottery, and ceramics in general, are a privileged material for the study of numerous aspects of past societies, due to
their ubiquitous presence and generally well-developed study methods and typologies. Be it cultural transfer, economy or
everyday life reconstruction, ceramics can answer a whole range of questions, starting from the interpretation of single
contexts to wider regional debates.

In recent years, thanks to novel methods applied, pottery and ceramics studies in the eastern Adriatic have seen a shift in the
number of publications and projects interested in these humble but telling materials. On this occasion, we wish to discuss
pottery and ceramics from the Adriatic region from protohistory to the early Roman period, following an approach that will be
dealing with single contexts or single site assemblages, and singling out patterns, specificities, diachronic development, or
other features useful for a wider, supra-regional interpretation.

In this context, we would like to propose some of the following topics, focusing discussion on the timeframe comprising the
last centuries BCE and early Imperial times:

• Pottery/ceramics in mortuary contexts
• Pottery/ceramics in settlement contexts
• Regional overviews of selected wares
• Approaches to local production
• (In)visibility of single periods or wares
• Composition of specific assemblages
• Pottery/ceramics in relation to other material culture
• Theoretical discussions on methods, results, interpretations

Organised within AdriaCos project (HRZZ, UIP-2020-02-2419), the round table will be held on 2nd – 3rd November at the
Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb. Everyone interested in participating should submit an abstract to the round table
organizers (Ova e-mail adresa je zaštićena od spambota. Potrebno je omogućiti JavaScript da je vidite.) by June 30th 2023, comprising of ca. 300 words, authors’ contacts and affiliations.
